Campaign statuses, limits & health warnings

What Active, Inactive, and Draft mean, how plan limits cap active campaigns, and how to fix the red health warnings.

Every campaign has a status, counts against your plan's active-campaign limit, and is continuously checked for health issues that would stop it working on your storefront. This page explains all three and how to fix problems.

Campaign statuses

StatusWhat it means
ActiveLive on your storefront. It's synced to your theme, can show offers, and counts toward your plan limit.
InactiveSaved but not served to shoppers. Doesn't count toward your plan limit.
DraftA campaign still being created. Once you finish creating it, it becomes Active or Inactive — a campaign can't return to Draft afterward.

Active-campaign limits by plan

Only Active campaigns count toward your plan's limit. Inactive and draft campaigns don't.

Campaigns are only one of five feature types that have per-plan limits. For the full limit matrix across every feature type, see Plan comparison & limits.

If you're at your limit and try to activate another campaign, it's saved as Inactive instead and you'll see a notice. Deactivate another campaign or upgrade your plan to free up a slot.

Being under your campaign count limit doesn't guarantee a campaign renders. Active campaigns are also written to a shared Shopify metafield with a storage cap, and if that cap is exceeded some campaigns may stop appearing even though you have free campaign slots. See Metafield storage limit.

What happens if you downgrade

If you move to a plan with a lower limit, the app automatically deactivates your most recently created campaigns until you're within the new limit. Your older campaigns stay active. Reactivate the ones you want (within the new limit) after upgrading again.

This auto-deactivation applies to campaigns only. Other limited features — restrictions, limiters, and discounts — are not auto-deactivated on a downgrade, so you can end up over their limit until you tidy them up manually. For the full newest-first deactivation rules and this campaigns-only asymmetry, see Upgrading & downgrading.

Health warnings

When an active campaign can't function correctly, a red information icon appears next to its name in the campaigns table and dashboard. Hover it to see the issue. There are five checks:

When the product check is skipped

The "products" warning doesn't apply to every campaign — these are considered healthy without listed products:

  • Draft campaigns.
  • Campaigns using automatic (AI) recommendations for all offers (Product Recommendations and Checkout Upsells), since the products are chosen at runtime.
  • Collection offers (checked by the collection rule instead).

Unlisted (hidden) products

Some campaign types can use products that aren't publicly listed, because they're added to the cart or shown by ID rather than found via search:

  • Auto-Add, Post-Purchase, and Gift with Purchase support unlisted products.
  • Product Recommendations, Checkout Upsells, and Unlock require publicly available products.

For Gift with Purchase there's a customizer toggle to hide unlisted products if you prefer. See Free Gift with Purchase.

Changes take a moment to go live

When you activate, edit, or delete a campaign, the app syncs the change to your store behind the scenes. It usually appears within moments, but if a storefront still looks out of date after a little while, re-save the campaign to trigger a fresh sync. See Campaign not showing for a full checklist.
